 Excerpt:

The mood during the drive back is serene. I have learned to accept his silence and his moments of sadness. To push the issue only makes him pull away. We ride the elevator up to our floor, my stomach in knots, feeling the magnetic energy in the air. He stands across from me, his hair is just slightly out of place. His tie and the top buttons of his tux are undone. His eyes glow in the dim light. I want to run across the elevator and kiss his full lips, run my hand across his beautiful face and have him accept my touch with no qualms. Instead I stand there, frozen, facing an invisible wall I cannot cross. His coolness makes me question if everything I feel is just a figment of my imagination.

When we arrive on our floor we head to our rooms, politely bidding each other goodnight. Just as I am about to enter mine, I remember I have his jacket. I can use this to have just one more moment with him tonight. I knock on his door, his lips slightly open when he sees me on the other side.

“You forgot your jacket.” It is still on my shoulders. I turn around to offer it up to him.

“Thank you Shy,” As he says this he takes both of his hands, grabbing each shoulder of the jacket and oh so slowly pulls it off of me, grazing my bare arms and back as he pulls it off. I close my eyes taking in his touch. Each caress of his fingertips feels like one thousand little sparks. How can just the faintest touch from this man set me off like this? Please kiss me. Kiss my neck. I won’t say no. I hold my position for a second more than I should, but it feels so tortuously long. There is nothing, not another touch, not a kiss. I turn to face him again and bid him goodnight. His face looks sad, almost guilty. Every word, every touch, every action tonight was an implication. This keeps us safe from one another. It keeps me safe from him.

“Goodnight Shy,” he says as if dismissing me from his presence.

“Goodnight Taylor.”

 Guest Post:

Pacing a MysteryI love to read, don't get me wrong, but many times I model my writing after film and television. This is especially the case when it comes to a mystery or suspense. I think the reason I do that is because TV and film do a very good job of pacing those genres. My goal when writing suspense is for the reader to feel as though they could envision it the way they would a movie. The benefit of writing, however is that I can delve into the psyche of characters in the way that would be very difficult in a visual medium.I don't have an exact formula regarding how I pace a mystery/suspense except that for me, building the characters is a very important process. I like build-up, I want readers to be clawing at the book by the time the plot gets to its climax. And while motivations may not be spelled out directly, I want my readers to have enough information about the characters to derive their own theories.
So with Strapped, the first half of the book is all about Shyla and Taylor and how their worlds collide. Once the reader is comfortable with their relationship, that is when the real story begins to open up and the pace of the book speeds up. I like to think of it as a snowball effect. By the time one reaches the end of Strapped, the momentum is very strong and rolls right into Strapped Down. Strapped Down is all action because we know where and who Shyla and Taylor are, and now we are dealing with the consequences of their relationship.

Strapped was always intended to be a trilogy and read together, so each story has its own arc but is really a smaller part in the overall story.  As a result, I paced these novels differently than I would do so for a stand alone.
Strapped Down, which is slated for a February release, will be the meat and potatoes, as in LOTS of questions will be answered. The final installment...well, that's my little secret ;)

Welcome to my stop on the blog tour for

Jessica Gibson's Dressed in White.

The Book:

Category: Contemporary Romance

Synopsis:

Lorelei Peters had everything she had ever dreamed of. Amazing friends, a sexy boyfriend, and a job that she absolutely loved. Dillon Brockwell was all she had ever wanted. Handsome, successful, and he loved her as much as she loved him. Life was going along the way it was supposed to, until someone from Dillon’s past shows up and shatters everything to pieces. Can Lorelei and Dillon get through all the craziness and make it down the aisle?
Or will lies of omission be enough to derail them forever.

Excerpt:

“Come on in, you don’t have to stand outside.” I busied myself with finding a vase and clipping the ends off the flowers, preparing them for the water.
“This is weird, right?” His voice was soft and closer than I had anticipated.
I turned to find him right behind me in the kitchen. “Yeah, it’s a little weird.”
“I don’t want this distance between us.” His hands cupped my cheeks.
I wanted him to kiss me, to tell me that all of this would work out, no matter what. I needed it.
He didn’t kiss me; though, he looked into my eyes, searching for answers to his unspoken questions. “I don’t know what I can give you right now Dillon.”
“Lor, every kiss that I miss tears me apart. Every night spent apart from you, without you next to me, it killed me. I told myself when I came here I wouldn’t do this, but I can't seem to help myself.” His lips crushed against mine in a hungry frenzy of passion. I gasped as he gripped my waist and sat me on the counter.
His lips burned a trail down my neck and back up again. I needed him, this, all of it. Who was I kidding? I couldn’t live without him any more than I could live without oxygen.
He pulled away and stood on the other side of the room. “Sorry about that. I’ll be good from now on.” The look on his face told me his words meant nothing; he had no intention of being good.

The Author:

*** Interview ***

Welcome, Jessica!

• Describe Dressed in White in one sentence.
Sometimes love really does conquer all

• What inspired the idea behind the book?
The book was actually inspired by the cover image. I saw it on a stock photo site, and sent it to my amazing cover designer (Stephanie from Once Upon a Time Covers) and it went from there.

• What was the most challenging part of writing it?
Some of the scenes were really emotional, and getting my head in the right place was challenging. There was a one scene with Lorelei’s sister that was really difficult to write.

• How does it feel to have your work out there in the hands of readers?
It’s always terrifying lol. I know that not everyone will love the books that I put out, but reading bad reviews is never easy.  On the flip side of that coin though, it’s amazing to hear the feedback from readers who have loved it.

• What do you enjoy most about writing?
I love seeing where the characters take the story. I almost never outline, because they always change it up on me.

• Besides writing, what other artistic talents do you have?
None lol. I can’t draw or paint, or play any instruments.

• Are you currently writing another book?
I am actually writing 3 things right now. A short story for an anthology, a new adult contemporary romance, and the 2nd book in the wedding series. I can never work on just one lol.

• What advice would you give aspiring authors?
Never quit. Even when it gets hard and discouraging, don’t quit.

• Current obsession?
Ballet….you’ll find out more about that in my na contemp ;)

• Last thing you Googled?
I think it was a recipe for Kringla, a Norwegian pastry my mom used to make me when I was little.

• You’re stressed. What’s the first thing you do or reach for? Headphones. Music helps me to relax and unwind.

• You write best with Music on while _sitting_ in your kitchen_.

• Inspiration hits, but you're not home or near your computer.
I have been known to tap out scenes in Google drive on my phone lol. Not the easiest thing, but not the hardest either lol.

• Best writing resource:
Other authors. I have learned so much from having fellow authors critique my work.

• Guilty pleasure:
Sex and the City and Gilmore Girls. Love both of those series.

• Automatic buy-list author:
Diana Gabaldon

• Favorite Book or Series:
Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander series. I fall in love every time I read them.

• Character you wish was real so you could meet:
Oooh, there are so many. Jaime Fraser from the Outlander series. Harry Potter because I’m a big nerd.
